Name of Organization
Dear “Organizational Head”:
On behalf of our organization,
Friends and Supporters of Liberian Basketball,
Inc. (FSLB), we are writing you to first of all
wish you a happy and prosperous new year and
secondly, to solicit the support of your
organization and its members. You may better
recognize us by our former name, Friends and
Supporters of the Liberian Basketball
Federation. Most recently, we jointly hosted
the 2007 Liberian Independence Day Celebration
with ULAA and the Liberian Community Association
in the Washington, DC metropolitan area this
past July. Though we have changed our name to
one that more accurately reflects our goal of
supporting Liberian basketball in general, our
mandate has not changed and our organization is
essentially the same. In short, FSLB is a
non-profit organization primarily comprised of
Liberians (former basketball players and
supporters) throughout the Diaspora who have
come together to promote and support the
evolution and sustainable development of
Liberian basketball both nationally and
internationally. We are also very grateful for
the support we have garnered from other
nationals, as well as Liberians in Liberia, who
are also interested in assisting us to
accomplish our goals and it is to this end that
we request your support.
Many of you may have fond memories of
the days at the YMCA, Sports Commission and even
the ACS gymnasium, where we spent many hours as
players and/or spectators enjoying the game of
basketball. Most of us are in a position now
where we can give back to our country and help
improve the conditions under which the game is
being played. There is a tremendous need for
virtually everything required for the sport
ranging from nets, balls, uniforms, referee
equipment, training materials, facilities, and
renovation of our existing facilities, etc., to
name a few. We are of the belief that
collectively, we can make a huge impact on
efforts being made to improve the sport in
Liberia and to be able to give back to our
youth.
FSLB has recently launched its
membership drive and we have some information we
would like to share with your members. We are
hoping you will be kind enough to allow us to
communicate with your members in that regard. We
would appreciate it if you could possibly
provide us with the email addresses of your
members, and in cases where that is not
possible, perhaps their mailing addresses so we
can share our vision and mission with them and
solicit their support with our endeavors. We
have a number of events planned for the upcoming
year which we want to keep Liberians here in the
United States abreast of, including fundraising
sips and tournaments in various parts of the
country. We expect our fundraising efforts to
culminate with our grand annual event (Youth,
Women’s and Men’s Games, Awards Ceremonies and
National Meeting) in the summer of 2008. With
your help, we are confident these events can be
a huge success and very enjoyable for all. We
trust we can count on you for your support as we
try to give back to the game of basketball in
Liberia. We welcome any ideas you may have.
